36 Teams, 16 Countries, Five Continents: Contest Deadline Extended



Due to Record Interest Contest Abstracts and Registration Deadline Extended to November 1

WASHINGTON, DC - Due to requests from the record number of universities interested in this year's Hydrogen Student Design Contest, the deadline to submit abstracts and register new teams has been extended to November 1, 2010.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and Proton Energy Systems, the 2010-2011 Contest, Residential Fueling with Hydrogen, has attracted an unprecedented turnout from universities across the globe.

There are currently are 36 teams from 16 countries and 5 continents registered for the Contest. The field includes the 2009 Grand Prize winner and 2010 runner-up, University of Waterloo, and a number of other past participants. "We're thrilled with not only the number of teams but with the quality of this year's competition," said Kyle Gibeault, Contest Manager. "We hope this deadline extension will enable even more leading universities around the world to register for the Contest."

For this year's Contest, teams are tasked with planning and designing a residential hydrogen fueling system for a home, apartment complex, dorm, or other single residential building. As a part of their entry, teams will develop a technical design; conduct an economic analysis; and develop business, marketing, and public education plans for their systems.

The Grand Prize Winning team will receive an expenses-paid trip to present their winning entry to thousands of industry professionals in a keynote session at the 2011 National Hydrogen Association Conference and Expo. Students from winning teams will also receive priority consideration for summer internships at participating sponsors at supporting organizations.
