Hughes JUPITER System Wins Customers and Awards as High-Throughput Satellite System of Choice

JUPITER System to be Showcased at Satellite 2015 Show, Including New Gateway Optimized for Conventional Satellite Systems

GERMANTOWN, Md. - With an expanding presence in major international markets and industry recognition for technical excellence, the JUPITER™ System from Hughes Network Systems (HUGHES) has emerged as the leading choice to power broadband services by high-throughput satellite (HTS) operators around the world. The company will be featuring the JUPITER System at the Satellite 2015 conference/exhibition at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC, March 16-19, booth #6001.

Building on its success in powering HughesNet® high-speed satellite Internet service--now with over one million subscribers in the U.S.--the JUPITER System has been selected as the foundation network for a number of advanced HTS services globally, including:

--  Media Networks Latin America (MNLA), a business-to-business unit of

Telefonica Digital, for the first commercial HTS Ka-band Internet

        consumer service in Latin America.

--  Turkish satellite provider Turksat, for HTS services in Turkey and

neighboring countries in Europe and the Middle East on the Turksat 4B

        satellite.

--  Ka-Internet/RSCC, for a range of services to be offered in Siberia and

Far East of Russia over the Express/AM5 satellite.

--  Malaysian satellite provider TS Global Network Sdn Bhd, to provide more

than 3,000 locations in its network with a major technology upgrade.

Expressly designed for HTS service networks, JUPITER features a high density and robust gateway architecture with lights-out operation, enhanced IPoS air interface for efficiency and performance, and high-throughput terminals. The foundational technology is the powerful JUPITER System on a Chip (SoC), an advanced VLSI processor employing a multi-core architecture and enabling 100 Mbps of throughput on every terminal within the JUPITER family.

As a result, operators of both HTS and conventional satellite networks can support the widest range of applications, from consumer Internet to highly-secure enterprise networks and even the most throughput-intensive applications, such as 3G and 4G backhaul.

JUPITER was named the 2014 Technology Innovation of the Year at one of the satellite industry's leading conferences, VSAT Global 2014 in September, which also recognized that it enhances the delivery of satellite services to the wider community and evolves the industry beyond its current limits.

"The JUPITER System is not only the standard for HTS deployments--it enables satellite operators to extract more value from their conventional networks while offering higher service levels to their customers," said Ramesh Ramaswamy, vice president of international sales and marketing at Hughes. "It offers a seamless migration path for operators to achieve better efficiencies as they upgrade their legacy platforms and position themselves for HTS networks."

Satellite service providers using conventional satellite capacity can realize significant gains, including higher levels of bandwidth efficiency and remote terminal performance, by implementing the JUPITER System. Hughes is bringing to market a JUPITER System gateway configuration that is optimized for conventional satellites using C- and Ku-band capacity.
