Honeywell Licenses Patent-Protected LCD Technology to Optrex


Increases Brightness, Image Quality for Display Screens on Mobile Telephones, PDAs, MP3 Players, Other Performance Products

PHOENIX, Dec. 3, 2008 - Honeywell announced today that it has granted Optrex Corporation (Optrex) a license for patented technology that increases the brightness and image quality on liquid crystal display (LCD) products.

The agreement provides Optrex rights to Honeywell's LCD technology, protected by U.S. patent titled "Directional Diffuser for a Liquid Crystal Display" (5,280,371) in the design and manufacture of performance LCD products.

Honeywell previously entered into similar agreements with Sharp, Samsung Electronics, LG.Philips, Sony Corporation, Toshiba, Toshiba Matsushita Display, Sanyo Electric, Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, NEC LCD Technologies, Chi Mei Optoelectronics, AU Optronics, HannStar Display, Quanta Display, International Display Technology, Casio Computer, Philips, Arima Display, TPO Displays, Seiko Epson, Hitachi and Wintek among others.

Since 2004, Honeywell has filed lawsuits against 65 electronics companies for infringement of patent 5,280,371. The litigation against non-licensees is pending.
