Henkel's Dr. Brian Toleno Elected to SMTA Board of Directors

Irvine, California, December 2, 2010 - Recognizing his technical expertise and dedication to the surface-mount and microelectronics packaging sectors, electronics industry colleagues have nominated and elected Henkel's Brian Toleno, Ph.D. to the Surface Mount Technology Association's (SMTA) Board of Directors. Toleno's term will span three years, during which time he will serve on the association's planning and globalization committee.

Commenting on this appointment, SMTA Executive Administrator, JoAnn Stromberg, reflects on Dr. Toleno's industry contributions and what his Board involvement will mean to the organization. "Even though Brian has just now been elected to our Board of Directors, his work with and support of the SMTA for well over a decade has been invaluable," says Stromberg. "He is always willing to assist with anything -- from writing and presenting papers at SMTA events to offering technical advice, Brian is viewed as one of our go-to resources for all things surface-mount materials-related. I'm delighted that his peers have now officially elected him to serve on our Board and I'm personally looking forward to working with him."

As a volunteer-driven organization, the SMTA relies on its dynamic membership to deliver the leadership required to make its global initiatives successful. The SMTA's stated mission is to develop solutions for electronics assembly through an international member network that shares practical experience to drive progress for assembly technologies including microsystems, emerging technologies and business operations. Members of the Board of Directors are charged with upholding this charter and enabling the association's positive contributions to the industry.

Having worked in the electronics industry since 1998, Toleno brings a depth of experience and breadth of knowledge to his position on the SMTA Board of Directors. Currently, Toleno serves as the Director of Technical Service Engineering for Henkel's electronic materials group and heads up a team of 32 scientists and engineers worldwide. He received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Penn State University and has been an integral part of the Henkel technology team for nearly 10 years. During the past decade, Toleno has presented numerous conference papers, authored multiple technical articles, has served on several industry association committees and has developed a reputation as a passionate and approachable leading authority on electronics assembly materials.

Having been involved with the SMTA in many capacities over the last ten years, Toleno is excited about serving as part of the association's leadership. "To be nominated and then elected to the SMTA Board by your peers is a humbling and very gratifying experience," explains Toleno. "I have seen the excellent work the SMTA has done to promote education, foster industry communities and further the advance of the electronics assembly industry. I'm honored to be part of the Board of Directors and to be working with the other Board members to help extend the SMTA's successful endeavors."

Toleno will serve on the SMTA Board of Directors from September 2010 through September 2013. For more information on Henkel, please log onto www.henkel.com/electronics. Details on the SMTA can be found online at www.smta.org.
