Happy Birthday! Intelligent Instrumentation's "Burr-Brown" Terminal Turns 21 !

TUCSON, AZ - December 1, 2007 - Intelligent Instrumentation, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, manufacturer of rugged AutoID data collection terminals, announces the 21st birthday of the oldest continually-produced barcode data collection terminal in the marketplace, the TM8501. This RS422 serially-connected barcode-enabled terminal is still a popular seller in legacy applications, even though there have been two subsequent generations of advancing electronics functionality built into the same small housing.

The TM8501, first designed and built in 1986 by Intelligent Instrumentation's prior parent, the Burr-Brown Corporation, is still performing the same useful functions in many factories, warehouses, and service industries: Tracking products, labor, and processes during production and service-related activities in manufacturing and distribution companies worldwide. It has had a few form- fit- and function-neutral design changes -- in order to replace obsolete components -- but it has lasted so well over the years, that companies still purchase it for legacy system expansions and for drop-in replacements.

Continuing to provide unparalleled value to OEMs and VARs worldwide, partners can count on a continuing revenue stream for years to come, from implementations as old as 21 years and as new as yesterday. And when the need for a functionally upgraded application is apparent to an end-user, the implementation is greatly simplified. That is because the newest member of the LANpoint terminal family, the LANpoint PLUS, is built into the same housing. It can be used in the same physical location - even the same mountings and power - but is supported by modern software development and management tools, since it is built upon the Windows CE operating system and is easily deployed in wired and wireless Ethernet environments.

And, lest a customer or partner fears technology stagnation, increasingly functional upgrade paths are provided in order to take advantage of the newest technologies and trends with the least amount of effort and cost.

Intelligent Instrumentation bucks the short product life trend in the electronics industry by manufacturing terminals for decades. Products, with associated service and support, are available for the long haul. The bottom line is that customers, OEMs, and VARs can continually receive value for years and years after the initial investment.
