Gore Announces Strategic Alliance with Quellan, Inc.

ELKTON, Md., Sept. 27 -- W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore), a global leader in providing high technology solutions for the electronics industry, announced today it has entered into a strategic alliance that includes an equity investment in Quellan, Inc., a leader in low power analog noise cancellation ICs.

Quellan brings to Gore their patented Q:Active(TM) analog noise cancellation technology. When combined with Gore's unique dielectric materials and GORE(TM) EYE-OPENER +® Conductor Technologies, together they provide today's mega data centers with one of the thinnest and lightest active copper cables in the market to deliver exceptional signal fidelity over longer distances in the smallest cross-sectional area. The GORE(TM) Extended Reach DDR Cable Assemblies more than triple the reach of double data rate InfiniBand(TM) cables as well as reduce the size and weight for enhanced flexibility and ease of routing.

"We are excited to invest in Quellan," states Eric Gaver, business unit leader for Gore's commercial high data rate cabling products. "Our roadmaps are well aligned. Through our collaboration with Quellan, we'll continue to yield an innovative family of products that offer a low risk approach for minimizing cable bundle size and power consumption, while bridging the reach gap for massively clustered HPC systems for generations to come. Due to the high degree of similarity that exists between our legacy passive assemblies and newer "Active" InfiniBand assemblies, we leverage our existing supply chain and our established manufacturing base in China and Mexico to meet the demands of our customers."

"In addition to the benefits that we expect to gain in the commercial markets, I'm very excited about the provision in our agreement that enables us to assess and leverage Quellan's unique noise cancellation technology into other Gore products targeting a broader range of segments within the electronics market," says Russell Shaller, global division leader for Gore's Electronic Products Division. "I believe that through technical collaboration, combinatorial effects of Gore's electronic materials expertise coupled with Quellan's technology, we can add significant value to the broad range segments in which Gore participates."

Gore is a world leader in electronic signal transmission, and noise inhibits the speed and distance of electronic signal transmission", said Tony Stelliga, CEO of Quellan. "By combining Quellan noise cancellation with Gore's transmission products, computing equipment will run faster, cooler and consume less power - all winning factors for their customers."
