General Micro Systems to Showcase Rugged COTS C4ISR Systems at Upcoming 2015 AUSA Annual Meeting


25 Years after the DoD’s endorsement of COTS, rugged systems need to focus on SWaP-E: “E” for efficiency in performance, price and I/O density. At AUSA 2015, GMS will showcase over a dozen COTS-ready systems for deployment in new and legacy upgrade C4ISR programs.

Despite declining budgets, warfighters and program managers alike demand more functionality with less weight and in smaller packages. Additionally, systems should be efficient and maximize purchase value, performance and I/O functionality. Offering the latest Intel® processors, GMS products showcased at the 2015 AUSA Annual Meeting boast the highest possible performance for their class and are packed with the maximum amount of I/O per package footprint.



Yet every system from GMS is also the smallest in its class, frequently packing two or three equivalent systems into a single box, rack shelf, or packaged system. On top of it all, GMS systems are the most rugged available, running at full processor speed from -40°C to +85°C but withstanding up to 100g shock and 8g rms vibration @ 5-2000 Hz (MIL-STD-810G).



“We have the highest performance COTS server that’s unlike anything in the world!” said Ben Sharfi, CEO and chief architect of GMS. “Our S2U server is only 2U high, yet is like 4 processing servers plus two 12-port Gigabit Ethernet switches plus 12 storage drives—all rugged, all modular, and it operates over an exceptional temperature range but uses only 300W. It's truly a density miracle.”



All GMS products are fully sealed and conduction cooled, operate from -40°C to +85°C and meet a laundry list of MIL-SPECs. Yet they emphasize SWaP-E, with emphasis on efficiency.

A revolutionary Microsoft® Surface™-like rugged 65-in UHD (4K) touchscreen tabletop-like Mission Command Surface based upon a Core™ i7 or Intel Xeon® server-class processor and running Windows 10.



Best-in-class rugged rackmount servers in 1U and 2U versions. Based upon LRU swappable COTS modules for Two-Level maintenance and maximum field up-time, the S1U (Red/Black) and S2U (“King Cobra”) servers have maximum LAN I/O in a minimum of space. Moreover, they’re field-ready rugged. See for yourself.



Incredibly small, conduction-cooled “shoebox” systems including: the SO302-4IN1 (“Tarantula”) 6-way secure virtual machine with 18-port switch; and the SO302-LP (“Scorpion”) low-profile server. Both boxes are meant to be hard-mounted to armored vehicles or whatever’s available yet bring enterprise class processing and LAN I/O to the battlefield.



Rugged “smart display” panel PCs ranging in size from 10-inches to 65-inches. In standard- and high-definition versions, the RuggedView™ “boot-kick ready” products are two products in one: rugged single-board computer or server, coupled with a daylight (or night vision) readable touch LCD display. RuggedView products are impressive in their SWaP-E capabilities, which you can see at AUSA.



GMS’s new Chronos processing “engine” based on Intel’s® 5th Generation Core™ processor “Broadwell-H” and used in our rugged Green ultra-low power (TDP 15W max.) and rugged Blue (TDP 75W max.) products. We’ll also have our Zeus, 10-core Intel® Xeon® rugged Orange server class (TDP 175W max.) series processing engine on display.
