General Cable Associates Recognized by the Aluminum Association for their Leadership of Electrical Division

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY – General Cable (NYSE: BGC), is pleased to announce two General Cable employees were recently recognized by the Aluminum Association for their leadership of the Association’s Electrical Division. Richard Baker, Vice President Manufacturing Process Technology for General Cable, stepped down from his position of Chairman of the Electrical Division at the end of 2013, and Christel Hunter, Director of Field Application Engineering for General Cable, was elected as the new Chairwoman.

During his eight year tenure as Chairman, Baker developed the Electrical Division section of the Aluminum Association’s website and managed the Aluminum Association’s representation at National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code- making panels through three renewal cycles of the National Electrical Code (NEC). He presented positive and enhancing messaging for the use of aluminum in electrical applications including the Environmental Life Cycle message for aluminum usage in electrical cables.

“My experience of being involved with the Aluminum Association has shown me the importance of being part of a respected advocacy organization that is dedicated to representing its industry sector. They reach out to governmental agencies, code writing associations, commercial, industrial, educational and consumer groups by promoting the use of aluminum and their reputation clearly endorses the safe use of aluminum in all electrical wiring applications,” said Baker.

As the new Chairwoman of the Electrical Division of the Aluminum Association, Christel Hunter brings valuable experience with her 20 years in the electrical industry, including 13 years in the wire and cable sector. Since 2007, Chris has represented Alcan Cable and now General Cable at the Aluminum Association and has served as Chair of several industry committees including THSC20 Building Wire committee, the Aluminum Association NEC CMP Committee, and the Las Vegas Section of IEEE.

“My goals for the Aluminum Association Electrical Division include becoming more active in electrical industry construction events and providing more content for designers, installers, facility owners and insurers through the AA website,” said Hunter. “There is an unmet need in the construction industry for accurate information about the installation and use of aluminum wire, particularly in building construction. In addition to our ongoing participation at the NTI Trade Show each year, we plan to participate in the APPA conference, an organization that represents educational institution facilities decision makers.”
