Gates Corporation Launches New Website Showing Potential for Energy Savings

Visitors Find Research and Recommendations on Converting to Synchronous Belt Drives to Save Costs

DENVER, CO - Gates Corporation has launched PT Savings Center, an educational website offering resources on energy savings for manufacturing companies, hospitals and other facilities with motor-driven systems.

On the site, users register for a white paper, entitled "Energy Savings from Synchronous Belt Drives," download a motor tip sheet from the U.S. Department of Energy and access the Energy Savings Calculator, which computes estimated annual savings from converting from a V-belt drive to a Gates synchronous drive. Visitors also find needed parts in the online catalog PartView(TM), complete with CAD models and 2D specification sheets.

Facilities spend billions of dollars annually on the electricity powering motor-driven systems, and many of these motors do not run at optimum efficiency. By improving the energy efficiency of these systems by 5%, they gain increased production or significant savings. Synchronous belt drive systems are proven, on average, to be 5% more efficient than V-belt drives.

In addition to information on energy savings, the site offers maintenance managers and design engineers resources detailing belt failure prevention, information on Gates Poly Chain® GT® Carbon(TM) belt drive systems and free design software.

"All manufacturing and office facilities have power transmission belt drives in operation, and the energy costs from running those motors can be staggering. When every expense is being scrutinized, it makes sense to make a change that offers a 5% return in savings, increased production or both," commented Brent Oman, Manager of Power Transmission Product Application at Gates Corporation.
