Four World Records Shattered at Loctite(R) Land Speed Shoot-out on Bonneville Salt Flats

Henkel Announces Results of Loctite®-Sponsored Bonneville Land Speed Racing

Rocky Hill, Conn. - October 14, 2010... Under the hot Utah sun at the Bonneville Salt Flats this September, four racing teams shattered standing world land speed records, using streamlined cars and motorcycles that traveled at speeds of 280 to over 400 mph. At the end of the five-day racing flight, which took place September 20 through 24, even a record standing for 45 years had been broken.

The following records were broken during the event:

In a highly emotional race that broke a record in existence for 45 years, Dallas, Texas-based Charles Nearburg sped to a two-way average of 414.316 mph in a naturally-aspirated streamlined race car running on gasoline on Tuesday, September 21. Nearburg's first-ever land speed record was set in the Spirit of Rett, a car named after his son Rett, an avid car enthusiast who lost his long battle with cancer at the tender age of 21.

Grass Valley racer Rocky Robinson of San Jose, California, once again claimed the Streamlined Motorcycle Land Speed Record on September 25, driving the Ack Attack, which bested the world record by 10 mph with a two-way average of 376.363 mph and a top one-way speed of 394 mph.

In his streamliner Speed Demon based out of Chattsworth, California, George Poteet raced to a two-way average of 363.673 mph in a turbo charged streamliner, breaking his own existing land speed record on Monday, September 20.

Mike Nish of Nish Motorsports raced the Royal Purple streamlined racecar to a two-way average of 285.306 mph with a 300 cubic inch engine running alcohol on Thursday, September 23.

As virtually every car in the competition relies upon Loctite® products to enhance its performance, it seemed natural for Loctite® to sponsor Mike Cook's Bonneville Shoot-out, an invitation-only competition between the fastest cars and motorcycles in the world. According to Mike Shannahan, Henkel's director of marketing for the North American general industry business, "From the moment our team arrived, we actively assisted all the race teams. Loctite® products, especially our threadlockers, are critical to racing performance, and the teams really appreciated our help and support throughout the Shoot-out."
