Flexible Welding Enclosure® for Welding Down to 10 ppm

When welding titanium and zirconium joints it is important that the welding zone is purged of oxygen to a level as low as 10 parts per million (ppm).

A flexible welding chamber is available from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® for a fraction of the cost of a rigid welding chamber. Flexible Welding Enclosures® provide a technically viable option to what are very expensive rigid enclosures or welding chambers.

Ron Sewell, Chairman for Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® said: “There are many requirements now for welding zones to be purged of oxygen down to as low as 10 ppm, which can be a problem when companies look the high costs of traditional metal chambers. Our Flexible Welding Enclosures® are an ideal solution.”

“Size for size, our enclosures cost considerably less than a metal glove box or vacuum system, provide a very fast purging time down to a few ppm of oxygen and are ideal for small production quantities of items that need total gas coverage as well as single large items with critical joints.”

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® has spearheaded a drive to design systems specifically for the welding industry. The company has been at the forefront in developing these enclosures for many years and has exploited the opportunities offered by advanced engineering polymers.

These innovative products offer significant attractions over vacuum and glove box alternatives, a significant reduction in cost, very small floor footprint and availability of a range of sizes up to 27 cu/m. The HFT® Flexible Welding Enclosure® has rapidly become the preferred alternative enclosure globally.

A combination of translucent material and optically clear sheet is used depending on the viewing requirements of the customer. Ultra violet stabilized engineering polymers are used in manufacture. Large access zips are fitted and additional entry points can be provided for operators’ gloves and a service panel incorporates access ports for welding torches electrical leads and water-cooling supplies. A purge gas entry port and an exhaust valve to vent displaced gas to atmosphere are incorporated into each enclosure.

Special Flexible Welding Enclosures® can be designed and manufactured to suit any purpose. HFT® has recently manufactured systems for complete robot manufacturing cells and for laser additive manufacturing applications.

Operator comfort and ease of use with Argweld® Flexible Welding Enclosures® versus the disagreeable conditions with a rigid plastic or metal chambers make the HFT® versions a big hit with welding personnel.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® are Weld Purging Innovators, Designers and Manufacturers with offices located globally.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® invented the ‘Weld Purge Monitor®’ in 1975 and own all international intellectual property rights and registered trademarks.

Weld purging is the act of removing, from the vicinity of the joint, oxygen, water vapour and any other gases or vapours that might be harmful to a welding joint. Such gases may combine with the metal to form undesirable compounds that may reduce corrosion resistance or may be instrumental in creating cracks or other structural defects in metals.
