Five Sessions Remain for HITSP Summer Webinar Series

A program of educational webinars run by the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) has been receiving highly positive reviews from participants. Four out of nine webinars have been completed; the rest are slated to run through mid-September.

Organized by the HITSP Education, Communications and Outreach (HITSP-ECO) Committee, the series is part of a new education and outreach campaign that will build awareness of the importance of healthcare information sharing, the role of the HITSP in enabling healthcare information technology (HIT) interoperability, and opportunities for stakeholders to become engaged in the Panel's work.

Participants have been responding with enthusiasm to the series, calling it "on target and easy to listen to," "a great overview," and "very understandable to an audience that probably has a very diverse background."

Webinar presentations are archived and available for playback on HITSP's website. Upcoming sessions will be recorded for Internet playback as well.

The next webinar, Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Lab Reporting, is the fifth in the series. It will be held on Thursday, July 24 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This webinar will explore the basics of the HITSP Interoperability Specification (IS) for Electronic Health Record (EHR) lab results reporting, including the harmonization process and standards utilized by the IS; potential for use of the IS in direct care and in public health; and key information on how specification can be used for individual organizations.

Presenters Jamie Ferguson, executive director of Health IT Strategy and Policy for Kaiser Permanente and Michael Glickman, president and founder of Computer Network Architects, will lead the webinar.

Participation in the live event requires both telephone and Internet connections. For more information, visit www.HITSP.org or send an email to hitsp@ansi.org.
