Fillmore Container Customer, Born to Hula is Giving Back to the Community

Our customers have great stories and we love sharing them with you. This particular customer caught our eye because they are putting their product to work by raising funds to help rebuild the Jersey Shore from the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy.

Ed Bucholtz started Born To Hula, an all-natural hot sauce company, in the fall of 2010. His goal was to create a hot sauce with great flavor, but add enough heat for the sauces to appeal to a variety of palettes. Within a couple months Born to Hula's three signature hot sauces were created, Cayenne Pepper Sauce, Habanero Ancho Chili Sauce, and Habanero Guajillo Pepper Sauce.

Born to Hula uses all natural ingredients and since it is headquartered in New Jersey, the garden state, all of its sauces are crafted with the freshest ingredients, hand picked from local farmers' markets in the Monmouth, New Jersey area.

On October 29, 2012 Hurricane Sandy slammed the east coast and changed the course of life for many. Born to Hula is one of the many businesses affected by Sandy. The business office was flooded with 4' of water, damaging inventory and business materials, and the kitchen space was inaccessible for a month.

The devastation from Hurricane Sandy was so overwhelming that Born to Hula felt empowered to do something to help make a difference and bring back their home - the Jersey Shore.

Born to Hula developed Surge of Sandy, a new hot sauce, with the collaborative efforts of John Hard of CaJohns Fiery Foods, who aided in recipe and product development, and Boehm Inc., who donated labels for the product. Surge of Sandy was born and proceeds from the product are being donated to the rebuild efforts.

"We wanted Surge of Sandy to reflect Hurricane Sandy's powerful impact, by making a sauce that had the same intensity. The recipe for the hot sauce incorporates two of the hottest peppers in the world Trinidad Scorpion and Bhut Jolokia. We felt it was only fitting to develop a bold product with extreme heat that would flood your taste buds," said Ed Bucholtz.

Born to Hula has selected Rebuild the Jersey Shore, a non-profit organization with a mission to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy, to benefit from the sales of Surge of Sandy.
