Feed Section Reflects Commitment to Low Cost Reclaim Processing

March 18, 2009

(Pawcatuck, Conn.)--Davis-Standard, LLC will exhibit a new and improved ram stuffer feed section at NPE, an example of technology that demonstrates the versatility and efficiencies of a ram feed extruder versus compactor or other designs. This feed section features a larger opening that can better handle the variation in feed materials and a more aggressive plunger head design that compacts the amount of material feed to the feedscrew. The ram stuffer system is extremely cost effective as compared to other technologies. It combines Davis-Standard and Merritt technologies and can be hydraulically driven for better efficiency versus previous pneumatically driven models. Retrofit kits will be available for existing ram stuffers. There has been an increase in ram stuffer retrofits over the past year as customers focus on value.

Davis-Standard supplies a complete line of reclaim extruders and systems for post industrial and post consumer processing. Reprocessing capabilities are available for low and high bulk density scrap, lightweight feedstocks, printed scrap, foam scrap, fiber scrap, rolled scrap and loose film scrap. Equipment reflects Davis-Standard's commitment to providing solutions that offer a significant value for the investment. This includes equipment for processing scrap to pellet at around 3.5 cents per pound typically, considerably lower than others in the industry of 5 or 6 cents per pound at best. Extruders can be built to process various materials at rates from 350 to 12,000 lbs. (160 to 5,400 kg) per hour. Extruder designs include ram feeder, dual diameter, wide mouth and tangential feed as needed to address process requirements.
