FCI Site Simplifies Chinese RoHS Compliance for Customers

ETTERS, PA. (March 14, 2007) - FCI, a leading developer of connectors and interconnect systems, has simplified the product selection process for customers concerned with meeting the Chinese RoHS environmental regulations that went into effect on March 1. A link specific to the Chinese regulations has been added to the company's RoHS microsite to allow customers to search by product for detailed information about each connector's compliance with the new specifications.

The microsite displays the circle-e symbol for part numbers that are Chinese RoHS-compliant. If part numbers are not compliant, the EFUP symbol will be displayed along with the "tic-tac-toe" box indicating the banned substances. Information on European RoHS compliance is also available on all products. For part numbers that do not yet define their compatibility via the web site, customers can email Global.RoHS@FCIconnect.com for more information. New part numbers are being added regularly on the site pages.

"One of FCI's 10 Commitments is to the environment, and providing the Chinese RoHS information is just the next step in simplifying our customers' compliance efforts," said Jeff Toran, director, global engineering services, FCI. "The move to lead-free is the most dramatic change to have occurred in the connector industry, with repercussions throughout the logistical chain, affecting all product lines and production processes," said Toran.

With a long-standing lead-free research and development program and a commitment to providing all FCI divisions with best-in-class technologies, FCI moved quickly as an industry leader to address the changed market conditions. An FCI project team was formed and used project management principles and carefully selected guidelines to develop technologies in line with customer requirements.

To assist customers in meeting their legal obligations, FCI established and continues to build an internal database from which lead-free and RoHS reporting information can be easily obtained. In this way, FCI is able to provide its customers with ready access to detailed information on substances found in FCI products.
