External AC-DC Power Supplies Meet U.S. DoE Level VI and EU CoC Tier 2 Energy Efficiency Requirements

XP Power has developed four external power supply series that enable products to meet new EU and U.S. environmental and energy efficiency regulations, which come into force this year.

The VEC40, VEC50, VEC65 and VES90 series of external AC-DC power supplies all comply with the new DoE level VI (US) and CoC Tier 2 (EU) regulations, drawing less than 0.15 Watts for the VEC50 , VEC65 VES90 and less than 0.075 Watt for the lower power VEC40 when in standby, offering average active mode efficiency of 89% or higher and exceeding the 10% load efficiency standard in the EU CoC Tier 2 requirements.

CoC Tier 2 came into force on 1st January 2016, and DoE Level VI takes effect on the 10th February 2016. These new requirements reduce the no-load power to less than 0.15 Watts (50-250 Watt supplies, 0.075 Watts for 1-49 Watt supplies) and push the market towards a flatter efficiency curve, with efficiency readings now required at 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of load.

With single output models created to deliver 12, 15, 19, 24 and 48 VDC, the external supplies are suited to a wide range of industry segments, and especially to portable devices and applications that require the power supply to be external from the end product.

The supplies, which measure 4.58 x 2.06 x 1.23" for the VEC series and 5.47 x 2.28 x 1.22" for the VES series come with a common IEC320-C14 input connector, with VEC series supplies also  available with an optional IEC320-C6. The VEC models additionally are approved as an LPS (limited power source), which reduces the risk of shock if incorrectly installed.

The VEC40 and VEC50 have an operating temperature range between 0 and 65 C, derating from 45 C, the VEC65 and VES90 have an operating temperature range between 0 and 60 C, derating from 40 C.

All models have CCC (China Compulsory Certification) as well as ITE 60950-1 safety approvals and meet Class B limits for both conducted and radiated EMC noise.

The VEC40 is priced at 13.50 USD, the VEC50 at 16.50 USD, the VEC65 at 18.00 USD and the VES90 at 33.75 USD for 1000 pcs orders and is available from Newark, Digi-Key, or direct from XP Power.
