Original Press Release:
EPA DfE Program Recognizes CSPA Product Ingredient Dictionary as Key Ingredient Communication Resource
Updated Dictionary Contains 40 New Monographs; Standardized System for Indentifying Hydrocarbons
WASHINGTON, DC – The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) announces the availability of the Second Edition, First Update of the CSPA Consumer Product Ingredient Dictionary. The updated and expanded Second Edition, which is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Design for the Environment (DfE) Standard for Safer Products as a key resource in the ingredient communication effort, features the addition of 40 new ingredient monographs, 126 new trade names, 90 other technical names defined, and a new standardized system for identifying hydrocarbon mixtures.
The EPA’s DfE Standard identifies the CSPA Dictionary as an appropriate nomenclature system and encourages its use for DfE participants that have to describe their product ingredients (see section 3.8.3, p.10), as well as a resource to enhance public awareness of the safer ingredients in DfE-labeled cleaning products (see section A. 15, p.39).
For CSPA, the publication, which is available on CD, is a central component of industry’s solution to keep marketers, suppliers and other key stakeholders committed to ingredient communications informed, by providing detailed information about the ingredients used in consumer products. In addition to its role with the EPA’s DfE Standard, the CSPA Dictionary also serves to standardize and define ingredient nomenclature for companies engaging in the industry’s Consumer Product Ingredient Communication Initiative.
As a technical resource, the CSPA Dictionary is a must have for both product marketers and ingredient suppliers, particularly those engaged in product formulation, regulatory compliance and materials purchasing. It is also a valuable tool for companies in the process of revising Safety Data Sheets for the OSHA 2012 Hazard Communication Standard, or those seeking information on the volatile organic compounds (VOC) / low vapor pressure (LVP) status of consumer product ingredients.
