Enersys Upgrades CC, CA and CX Flooded Batteries with Slide-Lock(TM) Post Seal Design and Taller Jar

READING, Pa., July 2006 - EnerSys, the world's largest manufacturer, marketer and distributor of industrial batteries, has now upgraded its flooded C family of PowerSafe(TM) and DataSafe(TM) batteries. The reliable PowerSafe CC and CA and DataSafe CX lines now feature a Slide-Lock(TM) post seal design to prevent leakage, and a slightly taller jar, which increases the electrolyte reserve and enables the enhanced product lines to deliver 100 percent initial capacity.

EnerSys' exclusive Slide-Lock post seals allow natural plate growth over time without degrading the seal and features an innovative tongue and groove jar-to-cover seal to dramatically improve the reliability of the seal over a battery's operational life.

The PowerSafe CC and CA batteries are primarily used for utility switchgear and telecommunications applications. The PowerSafe's CC lead-calcium design, along with the additional electrolyte reserve, lowers maintenance due to reduced watering requirements. The lead-antimony alloy grids in the PowerSafe CA batteries maximize performance in high cycling applications and withstand high temperatures. Both have thick positive plates for excellent long discharge characteristics as well as a square plate configuration for enhanced high-rate performance.

The DataSafe CX is designed for use in high rate, short duration discharge applications such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). The number of plates, plate thickness and electrolyte reserve have been optimized to ensure maximum performance during short duration discharges. A large copper insert in the post is also used in the CX battery to enhance high rate performance.

The CC, CA and CX batteries have a 20-year life expectancy in float service at 77°F
(25°C). The PowerSafe CC and CA batteries have a nominal capacity range of 50 Ah to
200 Ah at the 8-hour rate while the DataSafe CX features discharge rates ranging from 0.204 kW/cell to 0.717 kW/cell (end voltage of 1.67 Vpc). All posts and connectors are located above the cell cover, simplifying individual cell monitoring and inter-cell resistance measurements. Multi-cell construction minimizes floor space requirements.

A variety of installation services and preventative maintenance packages are available from EnerSys. Pricing for a PowerSafe or DataSafe C battery starts at $333 per unit. Delivery is 4 to 6 weeks ARO.
