Emerson Expands Rosemount® Radar Level Measurement Capabilities to Help Users Enhance Safety and Efficiency in Extreme Environments

Proven in thousands of installations worldwide, Rosemount radar technology now available for high temperature and pressure applications and corrosive conditions.

CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA (May 22, 2006) - With its Rosemount 3300 Series Guided Wave Radar Level and Interface Transmitter already installed in thousands of level measurement applications worldwide, Emerson now expands the 3300 Series to help users enhance safety and efficiency in extreme environments. The expansion includes special probes designed to prevent leakage and perform reliably when exposed to high temperature and pressure conditions over extended periods. The Rosemount 3300 is now available for temperatures up to 750 Deg F (400 Deg C) and pressures up to 5000 psig (345 bar). Common applications with these extreme environments include refinery distillation columns, liquefied gases and freons, power plant utility heater vessels, gas-oil production separators, oil water separators and compressor tanks.

Materials for the special Rosemount 3300 probes have been selected to avoid stress fractures commonly induced by high pressures and temperatures. The design of the new probes adapts to thermal expansion and contraction, retains strength and provides efficient feedthrough of microwave signals.

Safety was a prime consideration during the design of the new high temperature and pressure tank seal, which provides multiple layers of protection to avoid issues that can result from leakage. The seal includes a pressure and temperature barrier in a flexible assembly to handle forces induced by probe movement and temperature variations. A second brazed hermetic, gas-tight seal provides another layer of protection and the entire assembly is welded into a stainless steel sleeve for total robustness.

Users with high temperature and pressure applications can now experience the operational benefits of the Rosemount 3300, which uses guided wave radar technology combined with state-of-the-art signal processing and sensitivity, making it possible to measure both liquid level and interface on a two-wire platform. The result is fewer process penetrations and reduced installation and wiring costs. The Rosemount 3300 offers trouble-free installation regardless of tank geometry and is not influenced by changing process conditions such as turbulence, vapors, changing liquid density, dielectric properties or viscosity.

Emerson also introduced a series of innovative antennas and probes in exotic materials or PTFE covered for use on radar level transmitters in highly corrosive environments. The new corrosion resistant materials are available for all Rosemount radar transmitters; the Rosemount 3300 guided wave radar and the Rosemount 5600 and 5400 non-contacting radar level transmitters. New options include Monel and Hastelloy cone antennas and probes plus PTFE covered rods, process seal antennas and single probes. These materials extend the application area to a number of aggressive liquids such as mineral acids, caustic materials, salt solutions, liquid chlorine etc.

All Rosemount radar level transmitters are part of Emerson's broad range of intelligent, digital field devices that power the PlantWeb® digital plant architecture to improve plant efficiency by 2% and more through delivering asset optimization, process automation, and management execution. Further cost savings, increased plant availability, and enhanced safety and environmental compliance are achieved when the level transmitters are integrated into the PlantWeb architecture.
