EMC Expands Strategic Alliance with Oracle to Drive Adoption of ILM, Oracle Grid and Oracle® Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, (Oracle® OpenWorld 2006), Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that it is investing in new resources that help customers reduce their total cost of ownership and accelerate time to productivity leveraging Oracle® Grid technology and Oracle Applications to advance their information lifecycle management strategies. Building on a strategic alliance formed over a decade ago that has yielded over 40,000 joint customer installations, EMC plans to invest an incremental $20 million over the next 12 months to help Oracle customers leverage reference architectures, joint services and Oracle/EMC proof-of-concept facilities to more rapidly design and implement solutions based on new lower-cost computing models.

"Working in partnership, EMC and Oracle continue to achieve great success helping customers manage, protect and secure their Oracle applications and databases with EMC's advanced storage and information management solutions," said Chuck Hollis, EMC Vice President of Global Alliances. "EMC continues to invest in the development and validation of joint Oracle/EMC solutions, dedicating significant technology, engineering and professional service resources to assure seamless technology interoperability and accelerate time-to-deployment for our valued customers."

Among the recent initiatives and investments:

Solution Co-development and Specialized Architects: EMC and Oracle have invested to jointly design, build, test and document joint solutions for Oracle Database 10g and Oracle E-Business Suite 11i application environments. Additionally, EMC has established a team of dedicated, Oracle-specialized architects for both enterprise and mid-size organizations to assist customers with their Oracle/EMC deployments.

Expanded Proof-of-Concept and Interoperability Validation: EMC has provided significant hardware and software resources to the Oracle Enterprise Technology Centers in Atlanta, GA, and Reston, VA, for real-world product and interoperability demonstrations. Customers can view product demonstrations and learn more about Oracle/EMC reference architectures to gain hands-on understanding of Oracle and EMC product integration as they design their own customized Oracle/EMC architectures.

Oracle Next-Generation Database and ASM Development: Following up on the success of Project MegaGrid (http://www.oracle.com/megagrid), Oracle is utilizing over 30 terabytes of EMC storage technology to support the ongoing development of Oracle's next-generation database, Oracle Real Application Clusters and ASM technology. This ensures that customers transitioning to the next-generation of Oracle's flagship database platform in the future will benefit from tested, out-of-the-box support from EMC on day one of their installations.

"EMC's steadfast commitment to helping customers reduce their total cost of ownership via an end-to-end information lifecycle management strategy distinguishes it as a clear industry leader, premier Oracle partner, and trusted advisor to our mutual customers," said Judson Althoff, Vice President, Platform and Distribution Alliances at Oracle. "The investment that EMC has made in Oracle's solution development, interoperability testing and Oracle-specialized professional services is singularly focused on enhancing the customer experience. We are delighted to be working collaboratively with EMC to help our customers maximize the value of their information assets and compute resources today and into the future."

EMC is showcasing its solution portfolio, professional services and best practice methodologies for Oracle environments this week at Oracle OpenWorld 2006 (San Francisco, October 22-26, 2006) at booth #1702 within the Moscone Center.
