EMC Demonstrates Innovative Concept for SAP® Solution-Based Environment Management and Analysis

Previews EMC Smarts-based 'CIO Dashboard' Built Upon EMC's Unique Model-driven Infrastructure Management Capabilities; Provides Integrated Root-Cause Analysis for End-to-End SAP Solution-based Infrastructure

ORLANDO, Fla., SAPPHIRE® '06, May 16 / EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, is showcasing an innovative new concept in managing and troubleshooting SAP® solution-based environments to thousands of users at SAPPHIRE '06 Orlando, SAP's international customer conference. EMC is previewing a "CIO Dashboard" that uses innovative EMC Smarts® technology to provide a single interactive interface that can identify and analyze infrastructure issues anywhere in the SAP solution-based environment, including storage, network, server and database components.

The new concept, developed in close collaboration with SAP, shows a coherent, end-to-end view of the relationship between business processes and the IT infrastructure on which they run and offers a visual, real-time interactive interface for performing IT infrastructure impact and root cause analysis, identifying the business processes affected and quantifying the impact to the business in terms of KPIs (key performance indicators). If a business process is not performing according to the defined KPI, the EMC technology enables users to identify the root cause in real time, removing time-consuming manual processes that often are based on trial and error. This capability allows customers to realize the value of a business-driven architecture since they can now prioritize how they resolve their IT infrastructure issues.

"The continued collaboration of EMC and SAP has driven significant value to thousands of our mutual customers over the past several years," said Jeff Nick, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, EMC. "By driving tight technology integration using the enterprise services architecture and breaking new ground with demonstrations like the 'CIO Dashboard,' we are developing compelling solutions to help customers clearly see the value alignment between their information technology assets and their critical business processes. By showcasing them as a technology preview here, we are able to identify additional requirements and further develop this compelling technology."

At SAPPHIRE, EMC and SAP are presenting the "CIO Dashboard" as a model-based SOA (service-oriented architecture) approach to enabling a business-driven view of an IT infrastructure that leverages ESA (enterprise services architecture). The presentation running on the SAP NetWeaver® platform highlights EMC Smarts software working in conjunction with the SAP Solution Manager application management platform to identify the root cause of an IT infrastructure issue and quantify the impact it has on the business. EMC Smarts software receives business inventory and status data from SAP Solution Manager via a web services-based integration to the dashboard. The result of this collaboration is a visual interface that enables senior IT management to identify root cause and quantify the cost of infrastructure failures relative to business processes.

EMC is showcasing the "CIO Dashboard" for SAP solution-based environments throughout SAPPHIRE at booth #2227. EMC is also showcasing its entire portfolio of ILM solutions for SAP solution-based environments, comprised of networked storage systems and information management software and services.
