eInfochips and Texas Instruments Enable Hyperscale Telecom Infrastructure with HP ProLiant Moonshot

VoIP Software Transcoding Engine Integrated on HP ProLiant m800 Cartridges for Network Equipment Providers

SUNNYVALE, California and DALLAS — eInfochips, an HP AllianceOne Partner and a Platinum Design Member in the TI Design Network, today announced the introduction of their software defined VoIP platform for telecom VoIP transcoding. This solution offers significant scalability for network equipment providers or cloud providers, and is based on the ultra-converged HP ProLiant Moonshot system that scales to 45 HP ProLiant m800 server cartridges - 720 ARM® Cortex®-A15 cores, and 1440 DSP cores - all with a single 4U HP Moonshot 1500 chassis. The industry-leading VoIP software is envisioned to be managed in a Network Function Virtualization (NFV) environment.

HP Moonshot Servers

The HP Moonshot System is designed and tailored for specific workloads to deliver optimum performance. These low power servers share management, power, cooling, networking, and storage. This architecture is a key factor to achieve 8x efficiency at scale, and to enable a 3x faster innovation cycle.

"Communication service providers run hyperscale workloads such as VoIP in enormous volumes," said Susan Blocher, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, HP Moonshot. "HP Moonshot servers are designed to tackle these demanding kinds of hyperscale workloads to help providers significantly reduce the overall cost per channel."

Texas Instruments 66K2Hx processor-based HP ProLiant m800 Server

The KeyStone™-based 66K2Hx System-on-Chip (SoC) from Texas Instruments (TI) is a high performance, power efficient processor including the C66x DSP which serves as an optimize compute platform for VoIP processing. The HP ProLiant m800 includes four 66K2Hx devices on a single cartridge, each with four ARM Cortex-A15 cores and eight C66x DSP cores. In a fully configured HP Moonshot chassis it is estimated that more than 250K carrier grade AMR channels can be simultaneously processed -- leaving 720 ARM Cortex-A-15 [http://www.arm.com/products/processors/cortex-a/cortex-a15.php cores (180 GHz of processing power) available to support signaling and chassis management type requirements.

eInfochips VoIP Software Engine

The solution, implemented on the TI 66k2Hx offers toll-quality VoIP support through a full implementation of carrier-class features, including tone processing, voice quality enhancement, wireless capabilities, carrier-class diagnostics, fax relay, low system latency, enhanced system flexibilities and many others, and enables network equipment providers to immediately take advantage of HP ProLiant m800 for their proprietary designs. eInfochips will make this solution available for potential customers through custom development services. The company is currently developing a prototype solution to benchmark the channel densities that can be achieved on the HP ProLiant m800 cartridge with the HP Moonshot Chassis.

"We are pleased to see that eInfochips has taken the first step in creating a voice transcoding engine for the HP ProLiant m800 cartridge," said Ramesh Kumar, General Manager at Texas Instruments. "The m800 cartridge provides the lowest possible TCO and solution power in order to keep the "green" in NFV, and provides unprecedented scalability."

Global Innovation

The introduction of the software defined VoIP platform culminates 2 years of global collaboration between eInfochips, HP, and Texas Instruments. The result is one of the world's most powerful and energy-efficient VoIP transcoding server available.

"Integration of voice transcoding into the NFV environment is an exciting possibility for future carrier networks." said Parag Mehta, Chief Marketing Officer, eInfochips. "We envision a standards-based future where network operators can manage their service offerings through NFV architectures and assign the voice transcoding function for a scalable number of channels in support of SBC and unified communications offerings."
