Ebensburg, Pennsylvania Wastewater Treatment Plant Wins Safety Award

Public-private partnership focused on safety since inception in 2004

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - August 10, 2009 - The Borough of Ebensburg, Pa., wastewater treatment plant has been awarded the 2008 Class 1 Facility Safety Award from the Central Pennsylvania Water Quality Association (CPWQA). The Borough's 2 million-gallons-per-day treatment plant serves 2,100 residents and is operated and maintained by Severn Trent Services under a public-private partnership that began in 2004.

The Ebensburg plant received the highest score among all other facilities in the 30-county central Pennsylvania region. At the CPWQA annual awards picnic in June, a plaque was presented to the plant.

"Safety is always at the forefront of our operation," said Bernie Kozlovac, plant manager. "We follow stringent policies and procedures to ensure safety guidelines are met daily." According to Jeff Doutrich, Severn Trent Services regional manager, "Our Ebensburg personnel have embraced safe work habits from day one."

"Focus on safety is core to who we are," said Dana Kaas, vice president, Operating Services for Severn Trent Services. "Recognition such as this says our internal message is being heard, accepted and lived."
