Eaton Unveils New Powerware® Power Distribution Units, Remote Power Panels and Power Xpert® Gateway Series 1000 Card

PITTSBURGH ... Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the availability of Powerware® Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Remote Power Panels (RPPs) and Power Xpert® Gateway Series 1000 cards. Ideal for providing customizable and scalable power distribution in today's high-density data centers, the Powerware PDUs and RPPs deliver reliable power to ensure optimal performance and availability of critical infrastructure equipment.

As part of Eaton's series of Powerware data center solutions, the Powerware PDU and RPP are the first products to feature Powerware's Energy Management System for state-of-the-art monitoring. The Power Xpert Gateway Series 1000 card further expands the power distribution solution communication capabilities. Information technology (IT) and facility managers can now optimize power utilization for all levels of power distribution systems in data centers, including real-time metering at the branch-circuit level and a variety of connectivity monitoring options to proactively manage end-to-end power distribution systems.

"Data centers have evolved to become the very foundation of business. As data centers grow by adding more servers, databases and emerging technologies, IT and facility managers cannot assume they have the capacity to handle increasing power requirements," said Sriram Ramakrishnan, business unit manager for Eaton's Power Quality Protection Division. "Incorporating Powerware Energy Management System technology into these new products allows our customers to manage and plan their power utilization directly at the point where power is distributed."

The Powerware PDU, RPP and Power Xpert Gateway Series 1000 card reflect Eaton's commitment to the data center community by offering a broad range of industry-leading products that present customized power distribution solutions for each customer.

The Powerware PDU is an exceptionally versatile solution for both raised floor and non-raised floor applications. The PDU features a scalable design and architecture for simple system expansion and the unit integrates isolation, voltage transformation, electrical distribution, equipment protection and computer-grade grounding into a factory-tested package. The Powerware PDU is also easy to use with a front-access design, top and bottom cable access and spacious wire-ways in a space-saving package.

The Powerware RPP delivers substantial power distribution capacity with up to 168 factory- installed branch breakers in a compact footprint, 24 inches wide by 24 inches deep. Within a data center, the RPP is easily installed and can be placed inside of an aisle or at the end. This flexibility helps reduce cable costs and decrease the length of cable runs between the RPP and other peripheral loads.

"Today's data center environment demands power quality and power management solutions that are both flexible and adaptable, without compromising the reliability of power," said Ramakrishnan. "The Powerware PDU and RPP allow for easy relocation for traditional moves, adds or changes of equipment or for data center consolidation, upgrade or relocation."

As part of Eaton's Power Xpert Architecture, the industry's most versatile Web-based solution for measuring, monitoring, connecting and managing power systems, Power Xpert Gateway Series 1000 cards provide a central point to connect PDUs and RPPs to an Ethernet network. By plugging the card into a Powerware system, organizations can monitor equipment through standard on-board Web pages, Power Xpert Software or through third-party building management software.
