Easi-Set Precast Concrete Restrooms Benefit the National Parks System

Midland, Va., June 6, 2017: Easi-Set Worldwide, a subsidiary of Smith-Midland Corporation (SMID) project update. The National Parks System spans 417 areas over 84 million square acres. Since 1916, the roughly 22,000 employees strive to keep the open land in each state and U.S. territory true to its natural habitat and enjoyable for visitors. Maintaining the shelters and restrooms is part of that responsibility. The crew at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Van Buren, Mo., recently replaced one of its restrooms with a precast concrete building from Easi-Set Buildings.

The new Easi-Set Restroom was manufactured and installed by McCann Concrete Products Inc. of Dorsey, Illinois, a licensed producer of Easi-Set Buildings.

“The National Parks Service does a tremendous job providing and maintaining lodging and facilities for the millions of visitors each year, “ says Moffette Tharpe, managing director of Easi-Set Worldwide. “Precast concrete buildings are ideal for national parks because they are strong structures that require minimal maintenance, and they can withstand extreme weather conditions from coast to coast. Easi-Set Buildings offers a variety of restroom models with different finishes and customization options, allowing each park to offer amenities specific to its needs.”

The Carson Double Dry Model, which replaced a Romtec restroom, is an economical double vault restroom building that is ADA compliant and requires no electricity. It is ideal for remote locations, and it is delivered fully assembled. The Carson Dry comes with the FAN (fresh air naturally) ventilation technology, which uses the wind and sun to vent the restroom air. Standard features include stainless-steel fixtures and window trim and a gabled-style all-precast concrete roof with a cedar shake finish. Customization for these and other features is also available.

McCann Concrete manufactured the 11'11" x 13'9" x 9'6" restroom with exterior walls in a barn wood texture finished in a Sand Beige color to compliment the Java Brown roof. Anti-graffiti sealer was applied to the interior, and the building was customized with fiberglass doors, creating a very durable and virtually maintenance-free solution for the park service. The restroom was placed on two containment vaults and fully installed in just one day.

“The NPS staff was attentive and engaged onsite when the restroom was being installed,” said Mark Melvin, vice president of McCann Concrete Products. “The NPS mission, to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the parks system, is very much alive at the Riverways. The staff really cared about this project and how precast concrete buildings could benefit the park visitors with minimal impact on the land, budget or long-term maintenance needs.”
