Earl Walker, CEO Carr Lane Manufacturing to Chair SME Education Foundation 30th Anniversary Celebration



Industry leader, philanthropist, Earl Walker will lead events surrounding the SME Education Foundation's 30th Anniversary made possible through the visionary leadership, hard work, and generous support of industry and individuals.

DEARBORN, Mich., - Earl Walker, CEO, Carr Lane Manufacturing, St. Louis Mo., will serve as chair for the SME Education Foundation 30th Anniversary being celebrated this year. Mr. Walker has been a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for 50 years. A worthy recipient of this appointment, he has made considerable contributions of time and financial support to SME and its Foundation. Additionally, he has been long recognized for contributions to his community, youth and education, and a host of charities.

The celebration of the SME Education Foundation's 30 years of steady growth has been made possible through visionary leadership, hard work and generous support from industry and individuals like Mr. Walker. Event plans now being formulated will be announced later this year.

Today, because of his and similar efforts from industry partners, corporations, associations and individual donors, the tide is turning as the Foundation continues to impact the lives of thousands of young people who have benefited from K-12 programs, and scholarships.

Future plans are bright with concentrated effort being invested in manufacturing centers at high schools around the country. With scholarship support, another area reflecting Mr. Walker's involvement, there is a focus on addressing the image of manufacturing and educating people about careers in advanced manufacturing.

The selection of Mr. Walker as chair for this event is an acknowledgement of the creation of The Myrtle and Earl Walker Endowed Scholarship, now worth over $1 million, which has provided more than 300 scholarships. Mr. Walker's pursuit of an education and subsequent success were the result of having parents who cared, hard work and happenstance. "I think anyone who wants to go to school should be able to. Myrtle and I are happy to offer our support to the SME Education Foundation celebrating their 30th Anniversary."

In another education-based philanthropic involvement, which is highly important to them, Myrtle and Earl Walker are giving children the gift of speech which also provides a better quality of life; communication to a small child is very important. The Walker Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders founded in 1988, is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is to provide long-term professional treatment to children ages 2 to 6 with speech and language disorders. The organization has served 14,000 children to-date at six clinical locations in the greater St. Louis and surrounding areas.
