First ANAB-Accredited ANSI/AIHA Z10 Certificate to Trucast Inc. American National Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
Press release date: June 5, 2008
Doncasters Trucast Inc. is the first organization to be certified to the American National Standard for occupational health and safety management systems (ANSI/AIHA Z10-2005). The standard helps organizations of all sizes and types design and implement approaches to continuously improve their occupational health and safety performance. The certificate will be formally issued on June 9 at the Trucast facility in Newberry, SC, by STR-Registrar, LLC, an ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB)-accredited management systems certification body.
"By focusing on broad principles rather than detailed specifications, ANSI/AIHA Z10 enables organizations to integrate occupational health and safety management into their overall business management systems," said Robert King Jr., who recently retired as President of ANAB. "The standard is compatible with environmental and quality management standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 and with approaches to occupational health and safety management in common use in the United States."
King will participate in the award ceremony on behalf of Milwaukee-based ANAB, along with representatives of STR-Registrar and AIHA.
"Companies that implement ANSI/AIHA Z10 demonstrate a commitment to safety that goes beyond the requirements of OSHA," said Bryce Carson Sr., President and CEO of STR-Registrar LLC. STR-Registrar is the first certification body to be accredited by ANAB to conduct audits and issue certificates for the standard.
The current edition of ANSI/AIHA Z10 was approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 2005. ANSI facilitates the development of American National Standards by accrediting the procedures of standards-developing organizations, ensuring that requirements for openness, balance, consensus, and due process are met.
The Doncasters Group, an international manufacturer of performance and tolerance critical engineering components for a variety of end market applications, employs 7,100 people in the United States, Europe, China, and Mexico. The Trucast facility manufactures turbocharger wheels for the automotive and power generation industries. According to Doncasters CEO Eric J. Lewis, the organization plans to have all of its sites certified to occupation health and safety management systems standards by the end of 2008.
The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) is the U.S. accreditation body for management systems. ANAB accredits certification bodies (CBs) for ISO 9001 quality management systems, ISO 14001 environmental management systems, ISO 22000 food safety management system, ISO 28000 supply chain security management systems, ISO/IEC 20000-1 information technology service management systems, ISO/IEC 27001 information security management systems, ANSI/AIHA Z10 occupational health and safety management systems, and numerous industry-specific requirements.
ANAB's conformity assessment services also include accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, and reference material producers through Assured Calibration and Laboratory Accreditation Select Services, LLC (ACLASS). ACLASS is internationally recognized by ILAC, APLAC, and IAAC through the signing of multilateral recognition arrangements.
