Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

New NFPA Online Community Connects Standards Professionals Worldwide

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, has developed a new online community where professionals can share ideas, ask questions, and view the latest information on codes and standards.

NFPA Xchange is free for all users and open to the public. Content is submitted by subject matter experts, NFPA staff, and community users, with a range of topics including fire protection systems, emergency response, electrical safety, and more.

“NFPA invites the public to join this free community and share their expertise, discuss emerging issues in their industry, and identify the latest trends in their field,” said Jim Pauley, NFPA president. “We hope NFPA Xchange will become an invaluable resource for all community users and that they participate and engage with each other, and with us on a regular basis.”

This week’s three-minute podcast outlines how safety can impact stock prices. Listeners will also learn how to stay safe in a stalled elevator. UL Mobile App Provides Information on Global Hazardous Locations

UL, an ANSI member and audited designator, has released a new mobile application that informs industry stakeholders on global hazardous locations. The UL HazLoc app includes types of explosives, methods of explosion protection, and markings required by standards and national or regional regulators. It also offers a “Find Your Standard” feature that locates national,

regional, and international standards based on five simple data points.

“Navigating the complex landscape of global hazardous locations is a challenge for industry stakeholders,” said Jeff Smidt, vice president and general manager for UL’s energy and power technologies division. “This new mobile app streamlines the information providing design, production, installation, inspection, and regulatory compliance information in one trusted source – putting HazLoc technical expertise at the stakeholders’ fingertips.”

The app can be downloaded for free through iTunes and Google Play. To learn more and access the app, see the UL news item.
