DID YOU KNOW...? Tires are heat treated for research and development to simulate aging

Sandusky, OH – LEWCO, Inc. recently delivered a 350°F electric batch oven to a leading producer of specialty tires.  The oven will operate continuously, for months at a time, to quantify the detrimental effects of elevated temperature on various size tires over time.

Due to the critical nature of this research and development work, an enhanced-duty LEWCO Oven was chosen over competitive products.  With a larger circulation fan and LEWCO'S proprietary plenum design, factory acceptance testing certified this oven at +/- 4°F temperature uniformity prior to shipment.  All LEWCO temperature uniformity surveys are performed to AMS 2750E.

The project also included (2) custom oven carts.  The carts were designed to conveniently store and handle up to 6,000 lbs. of tires.  Both carts store tires on two levels and are adjustable to accommodate a range of tire sizes.

The oven was purchased with a standard LEWCO oven control package featuring Honeywell process and high-limit controllers, safety interlock circuits per NFPA 86, and a full voltage lockable disconnect all housed in a NEMA 12 enclosure.  The complete control panel is designed and wired to meet the requirements of NFPA 70, National Electric Code, and NFPA 79, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery.
