Press release date: December 8, 2010
Congressman Supports Manufacturing and Is a Recipient of the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence
WASHINGTON, D.C., - The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President and CEO John Engler issued the following statement today on Representative Dave Camp's (R-MI) appointment as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee:
"Manufacturers congratulate Rep. Camp on becoming chair of the Ways and Means Committee. During his tenure at Ways and Means, Rep. Camp has demonstrated his keen understanding of the critical tax issues manufacturers face. We believe he will be a superb chairman who understands the need for permanence and increased certainty in the tax code for business and investment. Rep. Camp has long worked to promote employment in Michigan and across the nation and understands that we simply need to move away from policies that hurt our nation's ability to compete.
There are over 81,000 manufacturing employees in the Congressman's district - including small and large companies - and Rep. Camp has been instrumental in setting policies that help them compete in the global marketplace.
As a result of his work, Rep. Camp has been the recipient of the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence in every Congress since the NAM established the award in 1997. Manufacturers in his district and across the nation look forward to working with him on important issues facing our sector, the economy and our global competitiveness."
