CUI's Novum Product Line Expanding to Include Intermediate Bus Converters

TUALATIN, Ore. - CUI Inc today announced the expansion of their Novum product line to now include a roadmap for high density intermediate bus converters based on their proprietary Solus Power Topology. Though final product details are not yet available, initial products in the lab are achieving power densities over 20% higher than leading intermediate bus converters currently on the market along with industry leading efficiencies.

CUI entered into an exclusive Field of Use Agreement with California Power Research Inc to license Solus Power Topology, then known as BPS-5, in March of 2010. The advanced topology leads to a significant reduction in switching losses within PWM circuits, allowing for improved energy efficiency, faster transient response and increased power density across a range of dc-dc applications. CUI will be providing initial samples of their first product incorporating Solus in Q2 2011 to a select group of customers, followed by a general release in Q3 2011.

With this product line expansion, the company will rename their leading power brand "Novum Advanced Power" in place of "Novum Simple Digital."

According to Mark Adams, VP of Advanced Power Marketing for CUI Inc, "The renaming of our Novum brand represents the shift we are making as a company to focus on the entire solution within an intermediate bus system. With our existing digital modules utilizing an advanced auto compensation scheme and the upcoming intermediate bus converters based on our patented Solus Power Topology, I feel CUI is strongly positioned to meet the needs of our customer's advanced power architectures for years to come."
