Coolant Recycling Pioneer Master Chemical Corporation Introduces Green Policy

Green Policy traces company's environmental activism back more than half a century.

Perrysburg, Ohio, February 29, 2008-Master Chemical Corporation has introduced its Green Policy which focuses on protecting people, planet, and profitability. The company, known as the originators of coolant recycling, traces its history of environmentalism back more than half a century. "Master Chemical was green long before people were talking about green or the environment," said Chairman and CEO, Joe H. Wright.

Master Chemical was one of the first companies in the world to voluntarily and rigorously test its products for safety-a practice that continues to this day. With the introduction of the breakthrough XYBEX® total coolant recycling system in the 1970's, Master Chemical virtually eliminated the need for coolant waste disposal. This historical concern for safety, conservation, and innovation has infused the development of its products and services-and its future direction. Master Chemical's belief in the vital importance of protecting people, planet, and profitability is the foundation of its Green Policy.

Master Chemical's Green Policy addresses actions taken to protect people, citing that its formulations are made exclusively with high-purity raw materials. Final formulations are put through intensive independent testing to ensure a safer work environment. The Green Policy also describes the company's extensive education and training about appropriate usage of Master Chemical products and workplace safety overall.

According to Mr. Wright, the Green Policy describes some of the company's early environmental accomplishments and goes on to detail current and planned initiatives to protect the planet. The company has implemented global office energy reduction and recycling and uses recycled products in its offices and plants. "Our global coolant management programs and recycling systems continue to reduce industrial waste, which lessens impact on the environment," he said. "Master Chemical will continue to factor safety, conservation and cost reduction in meeting the stringent needs and standards of the future," added Mr. Wright.

Profitability is the third category addressed in Master Chemical's Green Policy. For Master Chemical, profitability means not only creating products and solutions that reduce cost, but also working closely with its distributors and customers to identify and solve problems in the field. Master Chemical distributors are trained to provide multiple solutions including process improvements designed to increase throughput or reduce product usage.

The Green Policy cites the many ways that Master Chemical impacts its customers' profitability such as cutting costs with coolant management systems and recycling equipment; providing training to ensure cost reductions when recycling systems are used; lowering waste-related expenditures through recycling; reducing hauling and shipping charges; and lessening energy usage in metalworking and cleaning. The policy mentions plans for the future; including partnering with like-minded global organizations and developing even more efficient systems and formulations.
