Combustible Dust Housekeeping Guide to Aid in the Prevention of Future Dust Explosions

Holyoke, MA, April 26, 2010 - Combustible dust is a serious problem facing manufacturers today. Over 100 dust related explosions occurred last year alone resulting in death and destruction of property. Proper housekeeping is essential to decreasing the risks. Ruwac's new "Combustible Dust Housekeeping Guide" will assist manufacturers in training their employees and the creation of their own Documented Housekeeping Program, as mandated by OSHA.

OSHA requires that industries manufacturing products that produce a combustible dust, institute housekeeping procedures that include vacuuming dust 1/32 of an inch (approximately the thickness of a paperclip) and greater with a certified explosion proof vacuum - not the typical shop vacuum.

Eric Potorski, Sales Director for Ruwac says, "I still talk with manufacturers that think it is ok to vacuum combustible dust with a $20 shop vac. They are putting the lives of their employees at stake and increase the likelihood of an OSHA fine. We hope that the Combustible Dust Housekeeping Guide will provide manufacturers with knowledge and a handbook to help them deal with this serious liability."
The guide can be retrieved for free in electronic format from the www.ExplosionProofVacuums.com website. A printed book can be obtained from Ruwac distributors and sales representatives.

As OSHA continues to refine the standards of good housekeeping for combustible dust Ruwac matches the needs of affected industries by providing equipment to match the hazard. A rarity in the industry, Ruwac manufactures and designs their equipment in the United States from their ISO 9001, Holyoke, MA, facility. They have been doing so for well over 30 years. Ruwac's experience in portable and central vacuum systems satisfies customers across the U.S. and abroad.
