Collins Engineers Reports $14.5 Million in Contributed Cost Savings for the City of Chicago with New dotMaps GIS Application Built on Google Cloud Platform

New application developed by SADA Systems in cooperation with Collins Engineers provides a user-friendly portal for more efficient infrastructure project coordination and collaboration.

To meet the demands of their customers, Collins Engineers Inc. contracted SADA Systems to develop a cost-effective and collaborative application to better coordinate utilities work within the public way. SADA Systems built the dotMaps cloud-based application by leveraging Google Maps for Work tools and Google Cloud Platform. As a result, dotMaps aids Collins' customers such as Chicago Department of Transportation and the City of Chicago's Project Coordination Office (PCO) to efficiently resolve utility conflicts during the City's ongoing public infrastructure work, delivering real-time information and communication abilities during their projects. Conflicts can now be visually identified and addressed readily, reducing the risk of duplicated efforts on construction, contributing to $14.5 million in savings YTD 2014 with new processes implemented by the PCO including dotMaps application.

dotMaps includes an intuitive map editing/creation tool and allows users to edit the information associated with various projects as well as visualizing projects geospatially to highlight important interrelationships. Users can also edit or create projects within the familiar interface of Google Maps Street View. dotMaps gives users full insight into the status of various projects and their locations, while providing admins greater control and transparency. Admins can view recently modified projects and approve any changes. The dotMaps application reduces the risk of project conflicts, saving organizations the time and cost associated with redundant and conflicting efforts. Conflicts are generated in real-time, leading to faster resolution, and users are given email alerts regarding any changes. Users can also discuss projects instantly using chat notifications per location/project on a map. In addition, dotMaps seamlessly syncs with multiple data formats, including designs, transmittal forms, PDFs, MOUs, and more, making dotMaps a centralized hub of information that increases productivity with simplified accessibility.
