Ethernet/IP Accepted as National Standards in China and Korea

Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) network technologies continue to grow with adoption by major economies around the world

ANN ARBOR, Mich., USA, - EtherNet/IP continues its rapid global adoption, most recently through its acceptance as national standards in the Asia Pacific region. Engineers, manufacturers and business leaders in the industrial automation industry will benefit from the continued growth of the world's leading open network technology.

The National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China adopted EtherNet/IP, along with ControlNet, under the highest Chinese National Standard GB/Z. Growing its presence in the second-largest economy in the world under GB/Z 26157.6-2010 is an important move for CIP technologies, which were previously adopted under Chinese industry standards JB/T 10308.2-2006 in 2007. The GB/Z 26157.6-2010 recognizes digital data communication for measurement and control in industrial control systems and will continue to drive further growth of the CIP family of networks in the Asia Pacific region and around the world.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) also recently adopted EtherNet/IP under the Korean Industrial Standards KS C 61784 and KS C 61158. KATS aims to improve the international competitive power of local enterprises through the introduction of international standards for industrial communication networks, and to support Korean enterprise, KATS harmonizes local industrial standards with international standards. As EtherNet/IP uses standard TCP/IP, the same network technology used in the majority of local area network and wide area network architectures, EtherNet/IP is the ideal choice for manufacturers around the globe looking to take advantage of the ongoing advancements of standard Ethernet and TCP/IP technology.

About EtherNet/IP

EtherNet/IP extends commercial off-the-shelf Ethernet to the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) - the same upper-layer protocol and object model found in DeviceNet, ControlNet and CompoNet. CIP allows product developers, system integrators and users to apply the same objects and profiles for plug-and-play operability among devices from multiple vendors and in multiple CIP subnets. This promotes transparency from sensors to the enterprise software.

About ODVA

Founded in 1995, ODVA is a global association whose members are comprised of the world's leading automation companies. ODVA's mission is to advance open, interoperable information and communication technologies in industrial automation. ODVA recognizes its media independent network protocol, the Common Industrial Protocol or "CIP" - and the network adaptations of CIP - EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, CompoNet and ControlNet - as its core technology and the primary common interest of its membership. ODVA's vision is to contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of the global community by transforming the model for information and communication technology in the industrial ecosystem. For future interoperability of production systems and the integration of the production systems with other systems, ODVA embraces the adoption of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and standard, unmodified Internet and Ethernet technologies as a guiding principle wherever possible. This principal is exemplified by EtherNet/IP - the world's number one industrial Ethernet network.

CIP, CompoNet, ControlNet, DeviceNet and EtherNet/IP are trademarks of ODVA.
