CeramTec North America Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of its Ceramaseal® Brand

CeramTec North America Corporation (CTNA), the world leader in ultra-high vacuum seal technologies, is celebrating the 60th Anniversary its Ceramaseal® brand. Established in 1951 as the first ceramic-to-metal seal manufacturer in the world, Ceramaseal has always been the industry pioneer and innovator. Founded by former General Electric engineer Herbert Omley, Ceramaseal began with Omley's conviction that these ceramic-to-metal seals were an important innovation and a marketable, useful product in many industries.

Omley was right. After being established for a year, in 1952, the "Ceramaseal Company" provided alumina ceramic seals for the world's first nuclear submarine, G.E.'s Sea Wolf. The new company was encouraged not only by this sale but also later that year by another major sale to Bell Telephone Labs for their work involving radar technologies in the NIKE missile system. Other more recent applications include NASA's space programs and the Patriot Missile program.

CeramTec's Research & Development and Engineering teams, along with the Director of Technology continue to focus on creating new custom-designed ceramic-to-metal and glass-to-metal solutions. CeramTec's Ceramaseal® products set the industry standards for hermetically sealed products.

CeramTec (www2.ceramtec.com) is a wholly owned subsidiary of CeramTec GmbH and a leading manufacturer of high-tech, custom-engineered ceramic solutions, including hermetic components with the Ceramaseal® trademark. CeramTec products serve a wide variety of applications around the globe including: analytical/scientific equipment, automotive, defense/aerospace, energy, industrial, and semiconductor/ultra high vacuum industries.
