CAST Posts 101 IP Cores for Launch of New Chip Estimate SoC Planning Site

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider CAST, Inc. today announced it is an IP Partner with Chip Estimate Corporation, and has posted over a hundred of its popular and standards-based cores and platforms for today's launch of the revised ChipEstimate.com system-on-chip (SoC) planning site.

The new ChipEstimate.com provides a unique opportunity for architectural design exploration by integrating an extensive catalog of well-characterized IP with the proven InCyte chip estimation tool. Designers can easily search for the IP they need, select cores and platforms from different vendors, and then quickly evaluate the impact of their selections on the size, speed, power usage, and cost of their systems at a very early stage in the design process.

"We've been involved with all sorts of cataloging efforts in our thirteen years delivering IP, some effective, others with mixed results," said Hal Barbour, president of CAST. "Now Chip Estimate has assembled a large, solid catalog with a great user interface, and coupled it with an estimation tool so the combination actually does something useful. We think it offers real value to CAST customers, and to the SOC design community in general."

Feeling confident in the competitive nature of its products, CAST posted most of its extensive IP catalog on the new site. This includes processors like the new APS 32-bit line for embedded systems, 8051 and other microcontrollers, interface cores from CAN to PCI Express, multimedia codecs like H.264 and JPEG, encryption functions such as AES and DES, controllers for memories and devices, communications cores, and several cores for replacing obsolete parts. CAST also posted several Pre-Integrated IP Platforms (PiPs), which combine multiple cores with essential software to provide a large, pre-verified block of standard functionality for designers of systems using ARM® and other processors.
