Casa Systems and Teleste Collaborate to Bring Multigigabit Subscriber Speeds to the Cable Access Network

TURKU, Finland and ANDOVER, Massachusetts – Companies are targeting to launch a next generation, DOCSIS 3.1 and CCAP compliant, distributed architecture (RemotePHY) solution

Teleste, a leading provider of video and broadband technologies and services [http://www.teleste.com, and Casa Systems, a worldwide leader in next-generation cable edge technology and an innovator of converged fixed-mobile broadband [http://www.casa-systems.com technologies, have agreed to collaborate on the development and introduction of an end-to-end Distributed CCAP/RemotePHY [http://www.casa-systems.com solution. The key components of the solution will be Casa's C100G CCAP platform supporting RemotePHY architecture and Teleste's RemotePHY optical node. The collaboration will leverage Teleste's strong position in the European HFC access infrastructure market and Casa Systems' industry leading CMTS[http://www.casa-systems.com and CCAP [http://www.casa-systems.com offerings.

The jointly developed RemotePHY solution is designed to offer a future proof, scalable architecture for cable operators, addressing the exponentially growing demand for higher broadband speeds, driven by innovative multiscreen and on-demand video services. This solution will enable cable MSOs to compete with optical access technologies at speeds up to 10Gbps at significantly less capital investment by leveraging existing HFC plant. The solution will also offer clear evolution path from current centralized CMTS/CCAP architectures to distributed standards based CCAP/RemotePHY architecture, and will enable multivendor interoperability.

Casa Systems and Teleste have strong track records of industry firsts and both parties are committed to an aggressive time-to-market for the RemotePHY solution which will track closely with the industry standards bodies ratification of the specification. The companies plan for proof-of-concept implementation by late 2014. The primary market, for the jointly developed solution, will be the European cable operators.

"We are truly excited about DOCSIS 3.1 and RemotePHY as new technologies enabling multi-gigabit speeds on existing hybrid fiber coax infrastructure," said Hanno Narjus, SVP of Video and Broadband Solutions for Teleste. "Casa and Teleste are perfectly positioned to offer such solutions, unleashing the latent capacity available in the existing cable operator access infrastructure. We are thrilled to address this opportunity with Casa, as they are the leader in CMTS / CCAP industry."

"This collaboration is between two companies with the strongest technologies in their respective fields: Teleste in HFC infrastructure and Casa in CCAP/CMTS. This end-to-end solution provides our common customers with the best-of-breed technologies and yet integrated and fully tested," said Jerry Guo, founder and CEO of Casa Systems. "We are very excited to work with Teleste not only because of its leading HFC technologies, but also for its reputable service and support capabilities throughout Europe."
