CAS DataLoggers Now Providing Low-Cost Power Metering Kit

Electrocorder EC-6VA Three-phase Logger Records Energy and Power

CHESTERLAND OH - Electrical contractors, energy audit consultants, facilities managers and industrial and power distribution companies all require an inexpensive solution for their energy and power metering needs. CAS DataLoggers, the new distributor for UK manufacturer Electrocorder, is now offering customers the Electrocorder EC-6VA Three-phase Datalogger Kit, a current and high-voltage solution which sees frequent use in several applications including HVAC power metering to measure and prove energy savings opportunities to customers, energy auditing, and monitoring/tuning power consumption and carbon emissions. Using the Electrocorder kit, users can view onsite power consumption given in kilowatt hours as a result of logging. Extremely low-priced for the market and much more cost-effective than leading products, the kit also enables customers to identify voltage supply faults and power spikes, especially during the fault-prone season.

The EC-6VA three-phase datalogger records both energy and power (voltage and current), featuring three voltage channels measuring from 30V to 500Vac and three current channels measuring up to 400A, 1kA, 2kA or 3kAac. At single phase, the logger measures 30V to 300V. This durable logger is rated at IP43 and is also available in IP65 and NEMA 12/4 versions. The datalogger is provided as part of a comprehensive kit which includes the logger itself, 4 voltage leads, 3 Rogowski coils, a USB lead, free software, and a convenient carrying case. This new kit is already being used for data measurement to identify energy savings opportunities, locating issues with supply and equipment through ongoing datalogging, and as a low-cost investment for long-term energy savings.

The datalogger monitors power (kW) and energy (kWh) usage, checking voltage and current variations to diagnose any related issues or to gather data, for example to make representations to power suppliers. As the product records both voltage and current, users can determine if low voltage is related to high current demands on site, or if the low voltage is being supplied to the site. The included Rogowski coils fit around 140mm diameter cables and break open at the black joint, allowing them to be placed around the cables without having to break the main circuit. When only a single phase voltage supply is easily accessible, the EC-6VA can still be used to monitor and record 3-phase energy using its three current inputs and a single phase voltage input rather than the normal 3 voltage inputs. The datalogger also features USB connectivity using its provided USB lead.

Most other brands briefly waken to take a single 'snapshot' sample but then go back to sleep, missing nearly all of the critical information! The new Electrocorder kit utilizes a constant data sampling technique which samples every cycle multiple times for up to 300 days of continuous recording, missing very little data and enabling truly comprehensive metering. FREE Electrosoft software is also provided in the kit, allowing users to define the voltage so they can plot power and energy, then simply upload recorded data via USB to a PC for analysis with Electrosoft.

Wayne Porter, Applications Specialist with CAS DataLoggers, explained the new 3-phase datalogger kit's appeal: "With other power and energy products, customers have 3 main issues: they need a logger with speed, memory, and current clamps-and the cost can really add up. Our Electrocorder kit has everything you need for power metering, all in one low-priced package, including voltage leads and transducers. Customers can also view kilowatt hours as a result of logging, which is ideal for HVAC users who need to view power consumption for their clients and customers."
