Carrier Corp. Acquires Environmental Market Solutions, Inc.


FARMINGTON, Conn., Feb. 26 -- Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), has acquired Environmental Market Solutions, Inc. (EMSI), an environmental and green building consulting company with offices in Washington, D.C., Missouri, Beijing and Shanghai. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Established in 2000, EMSI provides sustainable design consulting services to building developers and owners to create energy-efficient and LEED- certified buildings. EMSI has been involved in many high profile commercial projects in China and the United States. EMSI President Kenneth Langer and the company's management team will continue in their respective roles under Carrier Corp.

"EMSI's market leading position in the United States and China, combined with an impressive global client list, will help expand Carrier's integrated green building design capabilities," said Kelly Romano, president of the Building Systems and Services business of Carrier. "This is a perfect strategic fit as we enhance our broad sustainability expertise in the commercial building industry globally."

Langer added, "The acquisition gives EMSI the resources and global platform to better serve our client base, which includes many Fortune 500 companies and leading commercial real estate developers. The move will enable us to help our multinational clients achieve their green building objectives throughout their global real estate portfolios."

The acquisition was completed on Feb. 19.
