C-P Flexible Packaging Boosts Lamination with Davis-Standard Line

(Fulton, N.Y.)--A new lamination line from Davis-Standard, LLC has added capacity and precision for food packaging leader C-P Flexible Packaging (C-P). The line, installed late last year, has been instrumental in helping C-P support business and delivery needs for large retail customers. Davis-Standard supplied the line with custom profile control between the gauging system and flex lip die to attain very flat profiles across the web and in the machine direction. The line is also wider to better support the company's press-printing capabilities.

"Over half of our business is in extrusion lamination, so the addition of this line was essential," said Mike Takis, Engineering Manager at C-P. "Not only did Davis-Standard address our technical needs, but they achieved an ambitious timeline due to our business growth and future opportunities. From quotation to acceptance, they were well organized and prepared. This is the only way we were able to stay on schedule."

The new line, which features new Integrator control technology and a regenerative, shaftless turret unwind splicer, primarily supports C-P customers in the snack food industry. It produces laminated structures comprised of extruded polyethylene between two films including OPP and PET. The films can be clear, printed or metalized. C-P offers extensive flexographic printing including 10-color printing as well as extrusion, adhesive and solventless laminations, shrink-sleeve production and slitting/rewinding capabilities.

Prior to the recent install, C-P was running all extrusion laminations on an existing Black Clawson Converting Machinery Corporation line manufactured at its plant in Fulton, New York, during the early 90s. This line has run continuously for almost 20 years with great results, so purchasing a similar line was an easy choice. Due to the longevity and success of its relationship with the Fulton facility, C-P is allowing Davis-Standard to bring customers into their plant to see the new technology firsthand. C-P is always pushing technology to improve the company's capabilities and this is often accomplished through a partnership with suppliers.

"We believe if a supplier is willing to work with us to improve our business, it is only fair to allow them to demonstrate their abilities to improve theirs," said Greg Collins, C-P's Vice President of Manufacturing. "This line was not an easy design and we appreciate Davis-Standard's unique solutions to challenging problems. The line is running well and has enabled us to maintain our goal of providing customers with new innovations, high quality products and quick deliveries."

C-P is based in York, Pennsylvania. The company is AIB (American Institute of Baking) rated as well as one of the few certified Sustainable Green Printers in the United States.
