BSA Brief addresses Axis of Rotation Metrology.

Press Release Summary:

The "Axis of Rotation Metrology" article summarizes groundwork already established for using spindle metrology to deterministically improve manufacturing processes. Article includes information on how testing is accomplished, standards which most specifically refer to quality of precision spindles, and synchronous/asynchronous error motions. Original Press Release:

Axis of Rotation Metrology is New BSA Bearing Brief of the Month

Glen Ellyn, IL- The Bearing Specialists Association (BSA) has identified the Axis of Rotation Metrology as the second educational publication in its series of Bearing Briefs of the Month.

The Axis of Rotation Metrology is an educational article summarizing the groundwork already established for using spindle metrology to deterministically improve manufacturing processes. Spindle testing, which is defined in the standards now as "tool to work," is also an excellent new diagnostic tool for other error sources in the machine.

The article includes information on how testing is accomplished, the standards which most-specifically refer to the quality of precision spindles, and synchronous and asynchronous error motions. The article warns bearing sellers that error analysis data encompasses all spindle errors, including structural errors both thermal and from external vibrations. Therefore, bearing and spindle manufacturers are advised to "take care that the error motions of your spindles are not limiting the quality of the bearings you manufacture."

BSA 's Bearing Brief of the Month is an educational campaign to highlight the series of single-topic publications of technical information designed by BSA distributor members and participating manufacturers to deliver expertise designed to meet the needs of the end user as well as bearing industry professionals. Over the last several years, the association's Educational Services Committee has published twenty-five Bearing Briefs, all of them available as free, downloadable PDFs from the BSA website, www.bsahome.org.

As part of the educational campaign, BSA has revamped its homepage, www.bsahome.org, to highlight the Bearing Brief of the Month.

Bearing Briefs are just one of a variety of education and training programs and publications provided by the Association. BSA is the "must belong to organization for authorized bearing distributors." An international service and educational organization of distributors representing a total of almost 100 companies distributing factory-warranted ball-, roller-, and anti-friction bearings and invited manufacturers of bearings and related products, the association's mission says, "BSA is the forum to enhance networking and knowledge sharing and promote the sale of bearings through authorized distributors."
