Bishop-Wisecarver Earns Bay Area Green Business Certification

Manufacturer of linear motion technologies gets environmentally focused

Pittsburg, CA - November 23, 2010 - Bishop-Wisecarver Corporation, woman-owned manufacturer of the original DualVee guide wheel and industry leader in guided motion technology, announced today that the company is now certified as a Green Business through the Bay Area Green Business Program in order to strengthen and sustain the quality of the environment in Contra Costa County through policies and procedures that prevent pollution and conserve resources.

"By becoming a certified Green Business, we are doing our part to assume the stewardship of the earth and its resources", said Mike Citro, Vice President of Operations at Bishop-Wisecarver. "Being a Green business teaches us how to conserve the resources that we use every day within our business and at home. It is a win, win. We protect the earth and save money at the same time."

The journey to become certified started in the first quarter of 2010 with a very comprehensive check list compiled with all of the environmental regulations applicable to a manufacturer. From the elimination of non-recyclable packaging materials to the use of energy star electronic equipment, the company has undergone a complete Earth-friendly makeover.

"Any business today should be thinking about becoming green certified," said Kelly Walden, Manufacturing Manager for Bishop-Wisecarver. "I hope we set the standard for other businesses to follow."

The effort to operate green also promotes a safer work environment through the elimination of certain materials that may be more hazardous than others and less costs on maintenance services to properly dispose of the materials.

"All the required changes were not just green but better for our business overall", said Pamela Kan, President of Bishop-Wisecarver.

This certification is just one of many efforts being made by the company in becoming a better, most sustainable manufacturer. Late this year, Bishop-Wisecarver transitioned from printed catalogs and product sheets to digital editions made available to customers on thumb drives.

"As a company we pride ourselves in being an early adopter of technology," said Kan. "Technology can definitely be used in our industry to reduce, reuse and recycle our precious resources."

With more than 2,200 businesses and public agencies certified since 1996, the Bay Area Green Business has helped many local businesses comply with environmental regulations and take actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, minimize waste, and reduce their carbon footprint.
