2013 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy

WASHINGTON--Use of renewable chemicals to replace petroleum chemicals is growing rapidly due to consumer demand. The Biotechnology Industry Organization’s (BIO) 2013 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy will feature presentations on cutting edge platforms used to create better and more efficient renewable chemicals for broader applications. The Pacific Rim Summit will be co-organized by BIOCOM and held in San Diego, December 8-11, 2013 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter.

“Growth in renewable chemicals has been driven by the volatile price of oil and consumer demand for more environmentally healthy products”

“Growth in renewable chemicals has been driven by the volatile price of oil and consumer demand for more environmentally healthy products,” Brent Erickson, Executive Vice President of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental Section said regarding the upcoming Renewable Chemicals Track. “Renewable chemical producers are looking for partnerships across the Pacific to further the growth of the industry. Investment in innovative formation of biobased platforms for renewable chemicals can provide real opportunities to create green jobs, reduce dependence on foreign oil and increase energy security for the United States.”

With a complete track of breakout sessions on Renewable Chemicals Platforms, the Pacific Rim Summit will showcase a diverse set of industry panelists highlighting comparisons between the uses of conventional versus modern platforms for the production of renewable chemicals. Attendees will also have access to presentations deliberating on novel renewable chemicals and consumer products while becoming familiar with innovative processes to bring these products to commercialization. Lastly, registrants will have access to high level discussions arguing for the inclusion of biobased consumer products in the oleochemical value chain.
