BIO Joins California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard Advisory Panel

WASHINGTON, D.C. - California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) encourages deployment of technology for advanced biofuels and biomass developed by California's industrial biotechnology community. The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and several of its member companies will offer input on progress and potential adjustments to the LCFS as a member of the California Air Resources Board Low Carbon Fuel Standard Advisory Panel.

BIO's Manager of State Policy Stephanie Batchelor, who will represent BIO as a member of the Advisory Panel, stated, "California is home to numerous biotechnology companies that produce technology not only for advanced biofuels and agriculture, but also human health, environmental remediation, and green product applications. Combined, these companies generate employment opportunities for more than 200,000 people in the state. BIO believes that California should encourage biotechnology solutions that produce clean and sustainable fuels and products that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the Low Carbon Fuel Standard."

BIO member companies also participating on the Advisory Panel include Solazyme, Inc., Amyris, Inc., POET, and Sapphire Energy.
