BIO Heads Back to Chicago

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Thursday, May 07, 2009) - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today that they will be heading back to Chicago, Ill., for the 2010 BIO International Convention. The 2010 Convention will take place May 3-6 at McCormick Place in Chicago, gathering more than 60 countries, hundreds of public officials and policy makers, and 2,100 companies and global biotech leaders.

The 2010 Convention will include a Business Forum that will address business challenges and offer thousands of partnering meetings for investing in innovations to produce the next generation of medical, agricultural, industrial and environmental solutions to help heal, fuel and feed the world.

"We are excited to return to the great city of Chicago. When we were here last - in 2006 - the city was a phenomenal host, helping us attract a then record number of industry leaders from around the globe and demonstrate to the world the thriving biotech community in the Midwest," said BIO president and CEO Jim C. Greenwood. "In 2010, the BIO International Convention will again gather the best, brightest and most influential minds in biotech to help companies navigate the dynamic financial, political and scientific issues these businesses face.

Home to a growing number of biotech startups, in addition to some of the world's largest biotech-oriented agricultural, pharmaceutical and industrial companies, the greater Chicago area is a growing hub for the industry. The state of Illinois has more than 170 pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, diagnostic, agricultural biotech and biofuels companies, as well as an established and unparalleled concentration of hundreds of world-class academic, government and non-profit research institutions with exceptional support resources.

The BIO International Convention attracts leaders from 48 states and 60 countries. The 2009 event will draw an expected 15,000 to 20,000 professionals and will include 170 breakout sessions, keynotes from global leaders, business partnering meetings, and several networking events. The event will be held May 18-21 in Atlanta, Ga.

The BIO International Convention helps to support BIO programs and initiatives. BIO works throughout the year to create a policy environment that enables the industry to continue to fulfill its vision of bettering the world through biotechnology innovation.
