Behlman Announces That It Has Received a Follow-on Order for Model 94020 Power Supplies; Confirms Its Ability to Help Extend Useful Life of U.S. Navy Display Systems

High-voltage Behlman power supplies replace OEM units to prevent system obsolescence.

Hauppauge, New York– Behlman Electronics, Inc., known for its leadership in providing power products for military, industrial, and commercial applications, has received follow-on orders for its Model 94020 power supplies designed to help the U.S. Navy keep its UYQ-21(V) display systems operational.

The Behlman COTS Form-Fit-Function High-voltage Power Solution

In 2006, Behlman was asked to help solve the Navy’s UYQ-21 (V) display system problems associated with the increasing failure of aging power supplies that were no longer supported by the original manufacturer. For this task, Behlman adapted its Model 94020 High-voltage COTS power supply to match the size, shape, and performance requirements of the Navy’s UYQ-21(V) display system. After laboratory tests were completed at Behlman’s design and manufacturing facility in New York, units were tested at several Navy facilities and aboard U.S. Navy combat ships.

The success of these tests led to the approval of the Behlman 94020 design. Production and delivery began in 2007. This power supply has now proven itself in extensive real-world operation, and several additional orders have been received, including the latest order for delivery in 2013.

The Behlman 94020 power supply operates from a +28 VDC input, and supplies four high-voltage outputs up to 25,000 VDC, to power the color CRT display.

According to Behlman President, Ronald Storm, “Nothing says superb quality and reliability better that the repeat orders we receive year after year. In this case, our power products prove themselves daily in mission-critical applications that meet the Navy’s stringent requirements. Because we deliver this high level of performance with our wide variety of COTS power products, we often save military and industrial customers the high cost of custom design and engineering.”

About the UYQ-21(V) Display System

These displays are used with the computer systems for surface ships. Since the initial procurements for the U.S. Navy began in 1982, the UYQ-21(V) U.S. Naval Tactical Display System (NTDS) console has been the standard for many of the U.S. Navy’s surface vessels. U.S. ship classes that have been equipped with the UYQ-21(V) include the CG-47 Ticonderoga class AEGIS cruisers; DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class AEGIS destroyers; FFG-7 Oliver Hazard Perry class frigates; LHD-1 Wasp class amphibious assault ships; and CVN-68 Nimitz aircraft carriers. It is estimated that more than 3,500 consoles were produced before production stopped in 2002.
