Bayer Sustainable Development Report Named Best In Its Industry

Pittsburgh, February 21, 2008 -- The 2006 Bayer Sustainable Development Report has been singled out by a recent study as the best in its industry. The study, published by the prestigious Roberts Environmental Center at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif., examined sustainability reports from 29 chemical companies.

"Bayer's Corporate Sustainability Report and website stand among the most inspiring examples of sustainability reporting seen among any industry," according to scientists at the Roberts Environmental Center, one of the world's leading authorities on the comparative analysis of corporate sustainability reports.

"The results of this study confirm that our open, comprehensive and appealing approach to informing stockholders, employees and the public about our sustainability activities is on the right track," says Heiner Springer, Head of Corporate Communications at Bayer AG. The report reflects how the Bayer Group is able to harmonize economics, ecology and corporate social responsibility.

"Bayer worked extensively in years past to address sustainability. Now the German chemicals producer plans to integrate eco-efficiency with market-based strategies," state the scientists in their study. The latest example demonstrating the Group's commitment to sustainable development is the "Bayer Climate Program" launched at the end of last year, with which Bayer wants to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop new solutions for improving climate protection and dealing with climate change. "Projects such as these and the way we have anchored sustainability in our company by putting in place clear regulations and responsibilities are key components of Bayer's sustainability strategy," adds Dr. Wolfgang Grosse Entrup, Head of Environment & Sustainability at Bayer AG.
