BASF to Introduce New Synthetic Lubricants at STLE's 2010 Annual Exposition

Company to launch Plurasafe® Insure(TM) line of food-grade lubricants and Plurasafe® H2O-K(TM) hydraulic fluid for marine applications

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, April 22, 2010 -- BASF Corporation will introduce the Plurasafe® Insure(TM) line of food-grade lubricants and Plurasafe® H2O-K(TM) hydraulic fluid for marine applications at STLE 2010. This event is the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers' Annual Exposition and will be held May 16-20 in Bally's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

"These new product areas add broader dimensions to BASF's well-known Plurasafe® base stocks and synthetic lubricants," said Douglas Brown, BASF's Global Business Manager for Lubricant Oil Additives. "The Plurasafe Insure(TM) and H20-K(TM) products are part of the line of high performance synthetic fluids introduced in 2006 by BASF when it launched Plurasafe EnBio® TCS(TM) hydraulic fluid for turf maintenance equipment that does not burn or kill grass when leaks occur."

At STLE, in booth number 123, BASF will also showcase the two key product lines that comprise its newly formed Lubricant Oil Additives business:

Ashless Additives for Lubricant Formulations and High Performance Synthetic Lubricants. In addition, show attendees are invited to attend a presentation given by BASF Technical Specialist Margaret Egiziaco on Tuesday, May 18 at 3:30 p.m. PDT. Her technical paper will address "Handling the Impact of Biodiesel Fuel on Lubricants."

"BASF has long been recognized as a provider of synthetic lubricants. The acquisition of Ciba Corporation last year added a broad line of ashless additives for lubricants to our offerings for this market," added Brown.
"The combination of the two product areas allows us to offer more innovative technologies and solutions for our customers."

Plurasafe® H2O-K(TM) hydraulic fluid is a high-performance, water-soluble hydraulic fluid with low aquatic toxicity (as measured by test method OECD 203). Purasafe H2O-K is designed for use in sensitive locations where biodegradability and low aquatic toxicity are needed, such as marine and port applications where there is concern of water contamination. Plurasafe H2O-K protects the entire hydraulic system against wear and corrosion damage, and is engineered to meet the demands of high pressure hydraulic systems operating at or greater than 5,000 psi and 220°F.

Plurasafe® Insure(TM) line of food-grade lubricants can be used in a wide variety of food processing equipment. This includes gear boxes, conveyor belts, chains, and hydraulic systems. The products are H-1 and NSF certified, are available in a wide range of viscosity grades and have water soluble and water insoluble formulations.
