AXION Builds STRUXURE® Wetlands Walkway with Centerville-Washington, Ohio Park District

New Commercial Boardwalk System Built in Western Ohio

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – AXION International Holdings, Inc. (AXIH), a leader in recycled plastic and polymer composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX® rail ties/sleepers and STRUXURE® building products, announced today that its STRUXURE® Commercial Boardwalk products were used by the Centerville-Washington Park District to recently complete a wetlands walkway project at Oak Creek South Park near Dayton, Ohio.

The Park District used large profile 7" x 9" STRUXURE® Timbers in the sub-structure and small profile 1" x 8" grey embossed surface boards to build an approximate 100-foot long walkway and observation deck in a western Ohio public park. The Centerville-Washington Park District received a "Buy-Recycle Grant" from the Montgomery County Solid Waste District that will reimburse 100% of the material cost for the boardwalk project.

Ken Carter, Park Operations Manager for Centerville-Washington Park said, "The AXION products were as easy, if not easier to work with than traditional lumber products. We were able to complete our boardwalk project in half the time as we would have using wood products, and we don't have to worry about future replacement costs due to decaying wood."

"The boardwalk combines STRUXURE® Timbers as sleepers and joists in addition to new high performance surface boards to create a structural composite system that is ideal for Park Recreation projects," commented AXION's EVP for Building Products Dave Crane. "Our prior work with Logan County Ohio on the Onion Ditch Vehicular Bridge led to an introduction with the Ohio Parks Recreation Association. We are extremely excited about the opportunities presented in Ohio for our recycled materials used on bridges and park trails around the state."
